Scholarship policy

Award of Membership Fee Waivers

Partial or full waivers of membership fees are based upon financial need. Students must request a fee waiver application from the treasurer. No financial information need be disclosed. We trust in the good faith of the applicant that the membership dues would pose a significant burden and that if and when their financial situation changes they will begin to make full payments to the dojo.

Applications will be reviewed and fee waivers granted without regard to race, creed, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation. Brooklyn Aikikai

Award of Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded for seminars, training events, and travel expenses associated with these events. These events are ones considered by the Chief Instructor to be instrumental in deepening a student’s training.

Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Chief Instructor with the following considerations:

  • the need to ease the financial burden on the student, and (2) the commitment to training that has been demonstrated by the student (energy, time, and effort given to the Dojo).

  • Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, creed, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.

  • If any student wishes to be considered for such an award they should approach the Chief Instructor. If they wish to appeal the decision made by the Chief Instructor they may make an inquiry to one of the following members of the Board: Kate Savoca, Sarah Kaylor, Scott Ashen, or Carl Baldini.

  • The above members of the board will discuss the matter within two weeks and will make a decision regarding the matter. If they decide that the student warrants an award they may grant it.
